Have you ever had a week where everything seems to go wrong, well here's mine last week. Sunday - Amplifier Packed Up, in for repair Tuesday- Microwave Door got jammed, with dinner inside, finally got it open with a Jemmy & a Hammer, hence to say, I've had to now buy a New Microwave. Thursday- Hard Drive Packed Up on PC, second one in 14 months, and they don't think they can save any data, as is always the case, I've not backed up for a while, so I probably lost a lot of music again. What I want to know is Why can't I win the lottery, win a scratch card and get left an Inheritance, all in the same week Jacqui (depressed)

Hi Jacqui, I can relate 'cept I don't do it in weeks, I do it in years lol. Last year for my 50th, I spent 10 days in hospital, fell and broke my glasses, had someone run into my car, had my beautiful cat run over, my son decided no longer to visit me, the prednisone damaged my better eye, and the year just seemed to go on and on. Yes it would be good to be on the winning end sometimes but it is the challenges that make us the people we are. Hope things get better for you!! Cheers Lyn

Murphy's Law, dear Jacqui - If anything can go wrong. it will " Just curiosity but was Murphy a musician ? I know how it feels, Jacqui, but as Weegeo said life moves on. I won a lottery ticket once (not much but something) and had the numbers written down with the others and the winning ticket was lost !!! That was truly terrible .

Life is like that: good days, bad days/weeks, etc...
Sorry to learn this Jacqui, if it's any consolation you are not alone, happens to us all at some stage. But the great thing is no matter how bad it may seems now soon enough it will only be a fading memory.
Chin up, young lady!
PS---------------- If you let us know what files you might be missing we'll all help you out.

Hi Weegeo, You read my mind! Happened to me on Saturday night. Booked for a Dinner Dance in Ballynahinch, Set up my gear, switched on the Powered Desk and...........silence,nothing. It didn't even blink. So I had a yarn with the guest speaker, an International footballer, now retired, who was more than happy to hold the fort and extend his speech while I nipped back to Belfast, picked up a spare Mackie Amp and desk and raced back to the gig. He had talked for more than an hour, god bless him! Still I won't travel without some sort of back up again. Which brings us conveniently back to Jacqui, talking about back up!!

Hi Jacqui, Sorry to hear abouut the week youve had. What Im wondering is what has been used to try and salvage the data from your hard drive. I have done this on many of occasions without any loss of data.
What error message are you getting? What tools are you using to reclaim your data? Who has told you that it cannot be salvaged?
Maybe we should post this in the PC problems section to see if there is anything that can be done. I personally use the Ultimate boot CD which has never failed for me. I hope this helps.
Regards
Kemo

Got my PC back on Friday with a New Hard Drive, they said at the PC repair place they could not save what was on the old one, as if that was not bad enough when I brought it home and started putting back some of the Software, it packed up again, and to cut a long story short, it's back in the PC repair shop again to see what's gone wrong. Thanks for all the offers of help replacing files I've lost, I won't know what that is until I'm up and running again, and can check what's on my external hard drive and Data Disc's. Let's hope next week gets better! Cheers Jacqui

I know at the moment it seems as though all the forces in the world are against you but believe you me this period will pass.

are they sure it is the hard drive? if it keeps packing up like this it may be psu or a faulty ram stick.which means you are being fleeced by the shop, who should of checked these first.i always use a linux disc called knoppix.it boots straight from the disc.if this boots then the system is ok,then i can search through the hard drive,if this is successful then it is not the hard drive!,but it could be a corrupt mbr stopping your op system from starting.i have retrieved quite a few files this way.ask the shop what they have found, and what they changed the last time!!!

Well I've finally got my PC back, for the second time, it went back and they had to replace the Power Supply Unit with the fan, they say that it was not operating properly and so was overheating the PC, which is what may have burned out the hard Drive, When I was trying to reboot it the first time I just kept getting the Motherboard display on the screen, I talked to Technical Support from my PC provider, and although it is now out of warranty, they tried to help me reboot it, but without success, the Hard Drive was making a loud Clunking Sound. I don't really understand much about problems relating to Booting up a PC, as I had never had a problem like it before. I heard about having a Boot up Disc, but don't really know how I go about that task, so any advise would be helpful. Anyway, I'm going about the task of finding out what I've lost. And i will be looking into easy ways of doing I see I have something in my Nero Software that refers to this, so maybe that's an option.
