JohnG your input is greatly appreciated. We are all busy with other events in our lives and occasionally the forum will be the last thing on our minds but we do try to participate and contribute whenever possible. This is all any of us can do. There are times when I say to myself, "why bother?" I'm sure this happens to most of us now and again but there is just something about being able to share our thoughts with other, like minded people that makes it all worthwhile. I may eventually decide to step down and remove myself from all the "excitement" that comes with being an admin on a music forum, but for now I carry on as normal. Sorry Pat, didn't mean to upset you, My post was meant to elicit responses from other members not to cause rebellion amongst the moderators! It definitely was not intended to make you ask "why bother?" I hope we all know why you bother. Even though I don't post every day I do visit daily usually several times. That's just because it's a terrific forum and well run too! Yep, that's meant as a compliment. You and all your colleagues do a fantastic job. Please take a curtain call. Best regards, Keep smiling! JohnG.

JohnG, my "why bother" response was not directed at you or your post.
Without going into detail there are times when I ask myself why should I put myself through what I do in regards to this forum. I receive nothing other than the great pleasure of seeing something I set up being used by like minded people, ie, I love it when members share information files and ideas. I also love it when I meet people from the forum face to face, or when I hear of others getting the chance to meet, as with the recent N. Ireland meet and so on.
But having said that there are aspects to being at this level that are very challenging and need a lot of attention to keep it running as smoothly as it is, and without the help of all the mods, and indeed the regular members, it could not be done.
My point was that is why I bother. Even though there are times when feel it's getting a bit too much I simply remember all the positive things I mentioned above and I stick with it.

I would agree it has had an effect but I don't believe it is totally to blame. All fora (forums) experience patches where things slow down from time to time.

Hello all..Rocky here. I know I am a newbie with the site. However, I have been in the music business for forty plus years.
After reading all of the post in this area of friendly debate I would like to offer up a bit of response.
Fees: Actually I think they are too low considering what is available to members. Not only do members have access to quality MP3s and midi files, they also have access to a wealth of information and assistance from experienced composers, writers, administrators, managers, producers, and musicians. Not to mentions programmers and the like.
I totally agree with the concept of providing a means for potential members to listen to 30 seconds or so from files on midinet. Having said that, I also think you should consider dropping the option for guest to be able to download files for twenty four hours for free.
I am very active in Cat's program and have noticed that there will always be those that take advantage of anything that requires no monetary or other exchange for the benefits of membership with a user group for performing musicians.
If one can not afford 50 to 60 bucks a year for membership in an organization such as midinet, they I say so be it. Go spend 8 to 20 bucks a copy for some kind of so called pro file from people that are not concerned with the professional quality of the end product.

hiya rocky i would agree with u that the fee`s seem low however this was worked out by the admin, and has been accepted by the members personally i would like to see the fee rise a little as i don`t think it covers all exps.As a musician myself of 40+yrs i understand the hard work that goes into making this site work and it is without a doubt the best site i`ve ever been in and i am warmed by the support that we all give in this site

Thanks everyone for your wonderful comments, they are much appreciated. May I just point that the fees mentioned are solely to support and maintain the main website. No member of staff, including yours truly, receives any funding for our involvement in the forum.

I agree with both of you and understand and appreciate the efforts of the staff and members.
I downloaded all of the Blues Brothers arrangements yesterday. We are getting ready for a major show at the Palace Theater here in South Texas. We have artist coming in from both coast. The theme is A BLAST FROM THE PAST, featuring blues artist, 50's Rock and Roll, Jazz, Latin, Oldies, Swing, and the Rat Pack
I still think the site and member contributions are a lot of bang for the buck and look forward to contributing in any way I can.

Hi administrators and all,
If there was a proposal to allow guests to access the MIDI files section of the site for 24 hours for free may I warn you very strongly against doing that.
It is possible, with very little effort, to download the complete contents of the site once one has access to it. I'm not going to spell out how to do it here for obvious reasons, but just as an exercise I have just done it and it took me less than 40 minutes on a DSL lite link which I share with another to copy the entire MidiMart site. I'm sure I could have done it more quickly if I'd been trying!
Just to re-assure you I've deleted all the files except the ones I want!
If you're going to give access to anything then just some clips to whet the appetite.
I'll volunteer to edit some MidiMart files down to clips to help but someone else will need to tell me which ones etc.
Be very careful, Best regards, JohnG.

hi i was wondering if anyone can shed a little light on the P.Harrison affair?? i think what he has done is a dreadful breach of our trust and i applaud the action taken by Pat may i also add my tuppence worth whilst i really had no dealings with the lad as i understand it he is a young experienced musician but i emphasis young!!!! this is a trend that is prevalent in our business at the minute loyality is short lived !!! those of us that are much longer in the tooth have seen all this before and are not surprised by these actions May i say that i for one have no intention of leaving my little house here on this site and i would ask that all other like minded members should make their feelings known I want to finish by saying this!! That great gentleman Pat has wished him well unfortunately i can`t he has lost my trust and so i say this to him May you have the luck you deserve

Please take it easy guys, lets not precipitate matters and create a point of no return. Paul is a young lad but I'm sure he'll get back to the fold. All of have our good and bad moons dictating our moods. Give everyone some space and time to think and i sincerely feel we'll remain the family we are, in this Forum Please, lets show som restraint in our reactions. We need everyone .
