40 years ago this week The Beatles released Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band. And i thought that since 2 of The Beatles are in the great venue in the sky, it would be appropriate to pay homage to both a fantastic Group and a Milestone Album

Yes, Paul, (sung) "Well it was 40 years ago today"... seems like only yesterday (pun intended)! Sgt Peppers was definitely a musical and generational milestone; I distinctly remember the first time I ever heard it. My brother and I played it non-stop for hours at a time and we actually wore our first copy out. It remains one of my all-time favourite albums. Cheers, Dave.

My sons have it in their collections, even though the album was made years before they were born. Surely the sign of a real classic!

I echo all of these statements,The Beatles were(especially Sgt. Peppers) and are still the greatest thing to happen to the music industry.IMHO I, like many others grew up with them and their music.I still have all the original albums in vinyl and also on cd and never get tired of hearing them. Weeo

I agree with everything said...... One of the truly great albums of our times. I am glad to have been here when it was released. Albums such as this has encouraged many young artistes to get on the music wagon, I think the Beatles have influenced us all in some way or another.... As usual an mp3 from MidiMart..... Sgt Pepper by The Beatles.Long may the Fab Four reign.

I agree with everything already stated about the Beatles and especially Sergeant Peppers. Brian Wilson,he of the Beach boys and the equally brilliant Pet Sounds album, inspired the Beatles and vice versa and changed the songwriting world for everyone. Recently I purchased a cd from CdBaby by a group called The Vinyl Kings who are afficianados of The Beatles songwriting talents and if you like Sergeant Peppers you should check out this album as its the closest thing I have heard in years to being a new Beatles album. Regards Bigmike

Yes doricvision, It's funny that the Beach Boys are mentioned together with The Beatles. Funnily enough the Beach Boys never had a number one hit in Australia in the 1960's.
I couldn't believe that when I heard it. However it wasn't till they released Kokomo in the 1970's that they had a number one in Australia. Now I will stand corrected on all of the above if someone wishes to comment

Sgt.Peppers? One of the very best. I remember returning from Africa in January 1963 (coldest winter since ... from Mombasa, 98F in the shade) and hearing "love me do" then all the others in those early years of the 60's. Unforgettable! I've never recovered ... from either!
Still have my copy and a turntable to play it on. Lucky me.
Is it true that Pink Floyd were recording in the studio next door and that they inspired each other? Or is it just a rumour?
Unforgettable memories! Becomes soggy with nostalgia but even that isn't what it used to be. They say the old ones are the best.

Saw the Beatles at Shea stadium in NY in Aug 66. Then they went into the studio and stopped touring...That's when they worked on Sgt pepper, which was released the following year.
