Just heard of the passing of Jazz great, George Melly.
I was never into jazz music but this guy was a colourful character in every sense and I can remember seeing him on telly long before I got into music. He will no doubt be sadly missed by all he touched, both musically and personally.
Keep gigging up there, George!!
Pete.

He was a truly great man and was an inspiration to many as he pumped a little life and eccentricity into the Jazz world. I was fortunate to play with him on three occasions at the Silverman Hall in Nelson, Lancashire back in the eighties, and by gad he couldn't half drink. He must have downed about 20 pints of bitter by the end of the gigs. You never saw him drunk though. His canary certainly did have circles under his eyes!!!
