R.I.P. One of the first Brits in Australia to play a large part in the music industry.

Another great rocker has left us. RIP Billy. That great gig in the sky will have to turn up a few decibels now to accommodate Billy Thorpe.

What a shock to hear of Billy Thorpes passing this morning from a Heart Attack, only 60 years old. I saw him on the TV a few weeks ago and was amazed at how good and young he looked, certainly not a man of 60! I saw Billy perform so many times and also at the Sunbury Festival here in Aust in '74 and he always blew everyone away. When Deep Purple perfomed at Sunbury they were billed as the loudest band in the world, well Billy wasn't going to have that and when he headlined on the Sunday night he performed Waltzing Matilda on his own before his band The Aztecs kicked in, boy was he ever loud!!! He showed Deep Purple who was the loudest band and the real star of Sunbury! He was also responsible for the 'door deal' here, when he was being paid a pittance and saw wads of cash at the door he allegedly said I don't want a fee I want the door! He went on to perform at sell-out venues across Australia and had a string of hits in the 60s and 70s. Such as Over the Rainbow, Sick & Tired, Poison Ivy and then shedding the popstar image in the 70's with his biggest hit, the autobiographical 'Most People I know think that I'm Crazy' For guys my age he was a huge influence not just musically but his attitude as well, get up there on stage and stuff eveyone, and he did and always brought the house down! RIP Billy you will be missed

Yes Billy, you will be sadly missed..... The Big Band in the Sky is getting bigger. I think for him it was best he went this way, (unfortunately, too soon), rather than have a stroke. My two favourite songs of his are "It's Almost Summer" and "Somewhere Over The Rainbow". I guess that's where he is now. My thoughts go out to his Family and Friends. Bye Billy, Keeko

Billy Thorpe was the first band i saw ( many years ago ) which had a truly significant sound. That voice blew me away, and my all time favourite is his rendition of over the rainbow. He siezed and made oppertunties happen, packed a whole lot of living into his sadly early demise. He made things happen, and was a major influence on the Australian music scene. RIP Billy, maybee, but with that peace ,i think he"ll still be rockin! Rock on Billy 4 ever Sadly sadly missed here in our dimension Lavender

Met Billy twice, was at a multi band gig waiting to perform, he just walked up to me back stage and introduced himself I didn't realize it was him, having only seeing him on T.V. he was small, I patted him on the head and said "[glow=red,2,300] I like you Billy not many people shorter than me, but you happen to be one of them [/glow]" About eight years later I just happened to drop into a pub he was performing in, when he had a break I went up to him and said " Hi Billy" and he said, " Haven't grown much have I" I said "But you hair sure has" I was amazed he remembered me after all those years. He was a great artist, sadly missed.
