Tony Mehan, original drummer with the legendry Shadows has passed away. This is sad, so very sad. As a guitarist I am a huge fan of the Shadows, use to play all their stuff, Apache, FBI, Man of Mystery, etc. Tony Mehan was a gifted drummer and was responsible for that distinctive Shadows beat. news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/4480704.stm

Yes Pat I have just read the news. Sad Sad day and for him to die of just a fall is even worse. As usual MidiMart likes to pay tribute with a track that signifies the artiste.... This one I think shows Tony's prowess as a drummer to the full. The Shadows Theme by The Shadows

Great track.
Tony was regarded by many as a drummer's drummer. Even the great Cozy Powell was a fan.
To die so tragically is a bitter end to such a wonderful talent.

I personally don't do a lot of the Shads..... But on saying that, I do like to listen to them, Hank plays the guitar very well....
A sad loss to us all....

Met him in the late 50s he was working for Polygram records as a "new talent" agent.Unfortunately he turned down our bands demo. Nice guy and a great drummer.

What a great band the Shadows, they sure put a new meaning to music, Fender guitars owe a lot to them. Tony was the original drummer the fist of a great line up to pass away. Hank Marvin, Bruce Welch and Brian Bennett are still going strong and touring. I actually have a guiter, a Rickenbacker that belonged to John Farrar who was part of the Shadows line up for a short time as " Marvin Welch & Farrar". Well now Tony Meehan has gone and so many great musicians and singers just in the past few years, I guess our time is getting closer. I myself have been playing in bands duos and solo now for fifty years Music is a universal language, it is something that everybody understands. Bique

A sad loss. I saw him in the seventies at Baileys in Derby. May he continue making music at the great gig in the sky
