A Catholic and an atheist who were good friends were walking one day by the bank of a river. The Catholic was as usual trying to convert his friend when the atheist slipped and fell into the river. The atheist could not swim so his Catholic friend waded into the river to try to reach him. As the atheist surfaced for the first time his friend called out to him - "do you believe in God"? "No" said the atheist. As he surfaced a second time his friend called out again - "do you believe in God"? "No" said the atheist. As he surfaced for the third time the Catholic called out once more - "do you believe in God"? "Yes, yes" spluttered the atheist. "Well then, die in the faith!" said the Catholic, clambering out of the river leaving his friend to drown.
