Warm greetings to everyone from frosty Michigan. It's 0 degrees out today and the wind is blowing at 40 knots. Since I'm holed up today I thought it would be a good time to explore MidiMart. I live in the country and have a dial up connection with the astonishing speed of 24kb per second so it might take a while. I'm knocked out by the knowledge and support I've seen so far. I'm probably going to need it because I'm not that computer savy. Heck it took me hours just to sign on to this forum har! anyway it's a trip to see so many folks from Ireland, Scotland and the UK. My own grandfather (from way back) was deported from Scotland (Dunbar) by Cromwell. Seems he was a bit of a rebel. So that side of my family has been here since the mid 1600's. My Irish side has been here since the early 1800's. American history has shown that it was the Scots and Irish that opened the way west and were the greatest fighters for Independence. So I feel like I'm talking to ancient cousins on this forum and hope to contribute in some small way. I've been playing in bands since the 60's .... I do vaguely remember them as being quite fun and hopeful for the future. (Maybe we can get back to that hopeful outlook if we can rid ourselves of the crooks that have taken over our congress). I'm playing a Motif XS and since the gigs are getting kinda sketchy for bands (the economy has everybody about broke) I figure I should see how much music I can generate with one or two people. Sounds kinda mercenary eh? So that's me, a distant cousin, freezing his *** off, trying to play music for a living, and looking to midimart to find files to play and study as a new path to better musicianship. Thanks for the opportunity. Best, art

Hi Art. Don't tell the wife, but I use to go with a girl from Michigan Yes, loved your introduction, too - actually your description of your weather conditions makes Ireland seem a warm place to be, which really isn't the case as it is terribly cold here, as well. Welcome to the forum, by the way. I hope you don't have to wait until you're almost snowed under again before you make another post

Welcome aboard Art.. Not too many Yanks on the site but as you mentioned, we all came from Ireland did we not? LOL I also live in the country but you must live in Poland with a dial up like that..LOL I will be happy to send you any outdated gear that I have that might help you with your music, midi and PC connections. I sent a member in the UK a couple of memory cards for his Triton. The shipping for a 2oz letter was $69.00. He was happy to send me check for the shipping because the cards are no longer in production. However, it seems all of the greedy Bastards with customs tried to collect an additional $49.00 import charges for a gift because the value of the cards exceeded $50.00 As you said if we could fire congress the Brits will have to deal with their end of things. The poor guys can't buy anything at a reasonable cost without the gov sticking it to them worse than ours.. Our drummer had to go back to Michigan due to health problems, guess he is trying to freeze whatever his illness is. LOL No, we really miss him. If you were playing in the 60s we are probably the same age.. Let me know if you need any assist. If I can't help, there are plenty of great people here that will.. Rocky www.jazzbluesanddiamonds.com

Hi Art and a welcome from me in usually sunny Cyprus. It seems quite a few of us are in the grip of winter as it's the coldest I can remember it in the seven years I've been here. It also looks as if there's a global slow down in work for live musicians. With Cyprus being a holiday destination gigs tend to be seasonal here but our politicians seem to be intent on wrecking the economy here too. If it moves TAX it is the moto just lately. Anyway enough of my political ramblings. Enjoy your time here - there's a great bunch of guys and gals on the forum. I look forward to chatting with you. Best regards, Roger

Hi Art,
Welcome aboard from the demented MIDI specialist, take a look at the avatar, it says it all!
It's a wee bit nippy here too but nothing to match you. We're about 15 miles from the beautiful Rhine river and not too high up so, so far, the weather has never been really bad here. Although we're usually two to three degrees cooler here than right on the Rhine.
I hail from England too being born there but went and spent my early life from 4 until 16 in East Africa (Uganda and Kenya) then returned to the UK. Travelled a huge amount all around the world later on in my job and have finally settled in this beautiful area, with orchards all around me.
I wish you much joy here on the forum, it's a great little community (eh! great and little, surely it can't be both?) and the people are welcoming and friendly. i.e. biting ist verboten.
If you have any MIDI questions just fire away.
All the best, JohnG.

Wow An international responce of good will. What's next world peace? Really .... thanks a lot fellows Gerry, Pat, Rocky, Roger, JohnG, et. al. So if it's ok, I'll browse around the forum for a while so as not to ask questions that have already been answered. And even try to check in at an internet cafe on Matlatcha Island ... about 10 miles north of Fort Myers Florida .... Yup, I've talked myself into heading south for a few weeks. I have some friends that play in a great Blues band down there called Deb and the Dynamics. They offered some work, so hey ... I'm outta here! Best to ya "Clink" art

Voteing in Florida is a not too funny joke. A lot of shady stuff going on there ... but I suppose Bush likes it ... it got him appointed ... (not elected) .... but enough of that, it will only start my day pissed off. Say, I've noticed that you have to have cookies enabled to use this site ? is that right? (yer talking to a bit of a novice here) curious minds want to know. Matlacha is like a small drinking village with a fishing problem Har! all Irishmen are welcome there. peace, art

A belated welcome f/ East Tennessee, Art.
Coldest we've had so far is 13°F. Supposed to top out around 50 today though.
I'm Scots/Irish and Cherokee, but appearance-wise, the Gaelic side won out.
Good to have you aboard, Alan

Good God I don't believe what I'm seeing on this site. I'm on a high speed connection right now and the difference is kaleidoscopic. I mean all these orange and blacks and purples, red and yellows ... i don't get this at all with my 24kbpc dial up at home. This site is cooler than I can see ... wow and thanks ... headin' south art
