Hi Everyone,
My name is Jeff. I live near Charlotte, NC, USA. I'm a recreational saxophone player looking for some good backing tracks to play along to. I was reading through some posts on a site called SaxOnTheWeb.net and this site was mentioned, so I thought I'd check it out.
I played sax all through school, and then didn't play for a long time. I've just started playing again, and my secret goal (well, I guess not secret anymore!) is to get good enough to be able to play gigs at local bars.
I've downloaded quite a few free midi files, and with the help of a shareware program I bought called Melody Assistant I've been able to produce a few usable tracks, but most of the free stuff I've found is just to cheesy sounding to use in public. I would like to be able to sequence my own arrangements one day, but I don't know if that's realistic or not. I'm getting pretty handy at modifying existing files (combining melody lines from different parts into a new part, transposing, changing voices, removing unwanted stuff, etc), but creating something totally from scratch is beyond me right now.
I look forward to learning a lot from the members of this site, and hope to be able to actually make my own contributions one day.
Thanks!
Jeff

Hi Jeff and welcome to the forum, great to have you here. I don;t play sax but a very good friend of mine did try to teach me once but I just couldn't get to grips with it, too much control need for my liking But I am envious of those who do play. Incidentally my friend is a fellow called Lascelles James and he use to gig with Boney M. Played sax on all their albums, etc. One of his albums is detailed here: www.2-funky.co.uk/products/Reggae/566350

Hello Jeff, and a warm welcome from me too. You've certainly come to the right place if you want to learn more about midi. A friendlier or more knowledgeable bunch of people you will not find anywhere. Enjoy. Roger

A big welcome Jeff, you'll make lots of friends here. Great to have a sax player on board, one of my favourite players is Clarence Clemons from the E Street Band.

Welcome Jeff
I have played many different instruments over the years, but the one which I regret not having got to grips with was the sax.
I'm envious.

A warm Cooee from Down Under Jeff I too (like Geraint), have a long-harboured desire to learn the sax, but it hasn't ever become a reality. My hat's off to you. Welcome Warren ;D
