Hya Terry, I've got the same one. I you should be able to upload a midi file to the DR880 using your USB connection and your PC / laptop... then upload the MIDI file to it.... Dya see what I mean? Not too certain of the finer details, but it's gotta be the reverse of what i'm doing now......
I've got a Tyros 2... but as ya know, programming drums on a workstation is a pain if you want the full hit (hi-hats, cymbals, toms, fills and rolls etc...) So what I do... is programme the DR880... then play the file back through USB, recording it onto the Jazz Sequencer software on my laptop.... I then save that recording as a MIDI file and then dump it onto my T2 via USB.
Sounds long winded but its pretty quick... and your drum proggy is all done on one track and in one take!.. Stands to reason... You must be able to do it backwards.., ie: Export a midi file to the DR880 and reassign the MIDI notes to whatever drum kit you want to make to play it.
Hope this gives a bit of help?
Cheers. Tom.

G/day Tom,just found your message re, 880 drum machine,i haven't had time to try anything at the moment but i will investigate those options as soon as i can, i have since bought myself a "roland sonic cell" & the drums from the midi are not sounding to bad & i have only just begun to get my head around it as its all a bit new to me.If you happen to be passing by anytime soon just drop in you will be most welcome & i am sure its a lot warmer here than Merseyside at the moment. Many thanks for all the info Tom I will let you know how i go. all the best to you, simmo

Cheers Simmo!! hahaha.
Sonic Cell eh!!?? (Green with envy here!!) I'm pondering the idea of picking one up to replace my Tyros 2.. (Saves a lotta lugging coffin sized cases around eh!) I've seen the demos of them and they look awesome... just not sure how much work is involved in re-assigning voices and patches etc on the PC after they've been uploaded to it in MIDI format... you know.., to get the best sounds out of it for live performance.
Keep us informed of how you get on buddy! Look forward to hearing from ya!
All the best mate. Tom.
