Hi, I stumbled across this forum some time ago, and even forgot I had joined until I got a warning message in my email (sheepish grin)! This is too valuable a resource to let my membership slip.
I've been involved in midi since the late 1980's, starting out originally with the sequencer in my Ensoniq ESQ1. That got stolen from a gig I was playing, so I bought a cheap Atari 130Xe, and a midimate interface from Hybrid Arts. Moved onto an Atari 1040STe with a 4 meg upgrade, many sound modules and even a Casio midi guitar. I Had a lot of problems convincing bands I was in that midi was the wave of the future, so I ultimately started doing a solo stage act playing backing tracks that I recorded onto mini disks. I also used vocal backing tracks recorded onto the opposite channel from that which held my recorded midi tracks developed in my home studio.
Currently I have four cobbled together PC's, and am taking the plunge to use one of these onstage using Power Tracks Pro Audio so that I can have both midi and vocal tracks coming from my PC.
When I started most of my sequences were very crude (thank goodness for Band in a Box) nowadays midi files are everywhere and saves me so much time and frustration!
