Hi Folks,
I'm Ally and I live on the Isle Of Bute (that's an island to all you landlubbers out there). This is situated on the West Coast of Scotland, just about level in 'northness' with Glasgow.
I gave up gigging about 15 years ago when my daughter was born. (The wife unreasonably wanted my studio to put cots and baby stuff in !). I dragged all my gear out of storage about 3 months ago, bought a couple of new things and set about a bit of practice and started gigging again about a month ago.
I play guitar and sing live and use midis for backing. I usually delete everything except drums and bass ( I HATE PROGRAMMING DRUMS !!!!!!!) and then put a few of my own bits on them. Used to do iat all myself, but at that time sites like this didn't exist.
Well impresse with this lil ol' place !!
Keep up the good work.
Ally.

Hi Ally. Nice story. Congratulations on the baby, who'll be about 15 years old now I too gave up music for a few years and only returned to it after discovering the advantages of midi. I will never be as busy as I once was. This is out of choice as I am now almost 50, started in the business when I was just 18, and can't cope with too many late nights Fair play to the "old" giggers who still act like youngsters Anyway, welcome to the forum.

Hi Ally, Your address touched a few nostalgic nerves. Many years ago my parents used to take me on holiday to the West coast of Scotland and a few times we stayed on the Isle of Bute. (Rothsey). Lena Zavaronni came from there didn't she? When you're at the tender age of six, seven and eight it's surprising what pictures stay in your mind. I remember every morning we used to walk along some hill top gardens above the sea and watch Steamer boats coming in. I can vividly remember a four funnelled steam boat which I think was referred to as "The Mail Boat." Further up the coast we would descend and have tea and scones in a stone built cafe that hung over the sea and had buttresses like a castle. Wonderful for a kid. I remember fishing over the edge with a length of line. Never caught anything! Some years they would take me to Dunnoon and Kirn, still on the west coast and the memories are still fresh in my mind to this day. When I was about ten they swopped venues and took me onto the east coast. (Aberdeen). It was the coldest holiday I ever remember, and that was in July. I must have been very naughty at some time for them to take me there. I can recall sitting in windswept shelters viewing miles of golden sands and then going into a cafe for refuge and light relief for my chaffed legs. I was never naughty again !!! Apologies to anyone who lives in Aberdeen...but that's just how a ten year old saw it. Anyway Ally, welcome to Midimart. Cheers, Rossi

Welcome aboard Ally Pardon my ignorance but I never heard of your Isle of Bute, though I'm going to look up the Net to see/know more about it. I hate being left in the dark !!! Do keep posting in and share your experiences, pics etc with us. Cheers
