Hello..my name is Gayle(Rocky) Hill I am looking forward to sharing information and arrangements with this group of professionals. I am certain that it will benefit all concerned.
I am an old head and still love what I am doing. However, have slowed down a bit. No more touring. Our group loves to perform and we are just doing a house gig once a week, plus conventions
resort, country clubs and private party's.
Jazz, Blues and Diamonds
About the members:
Gayle (Rocky Hill) Has been a professional musician for over forty years. Now retired and enjoys working with and promoting new talent. He plays Piano, tenor, alto sax, bass, vocals and guitar. Toured Europe and the USA with show groups and backed artist such as Ray Charles, BB King, Ray Peterson, Dough Salm, and Curly Bridges at the Eastwood Country Club . Rocky was the tenor sax player on a national TV show during the 60’s called Shindig. He also holds the honor of being the music director for the play (The Colored Museum) a Broadway satire musical depicting the evolution of black musical art forms. This was done while he was involved with the theater arts department at Virginia Tech University. Also played Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, Hollywood, New York, and toured with the USO. Influences are very broad in scope. However his favorites are Louie Prima, The Rat Pack, Lou Rawls and all Motown and Blues artist. Arranger and composer. Recording and project studio is located in his home at Canyon Lake, TX.
Kathy Hill (Rock's Soul mate for the past 25 years) Kathy is a very accomplished Jazz vocalist. Her mentor was a delightful gentleman (Dr. Lamascalo) that loved her perfect pitch and took her on as voice student. He was the vocal coach for some very accomplished opera singers and worked with talent from Virginia Tech and Radford Universities. I was working with the theater arts department during this period and Kathy excelled with her formal training. She has a very sweet voice that is pleasing to the ear, not to mention her dedication to perfection. She is an accomplished pianist and vocalist. She also is great with the customers and is our front line contact for bookings and public relations. Her influences are Natalie Cole, Linda Ronstadt, Motown, Blues, Broadway, and Gloria Estevan in the early years.
Allan Hendrickson. Fresh, young, very talented and our lead vocalist. This gentleman also plays guitar, upright bass, fiddle, electric bass and piano. He sings and performs Jazz, Blues, Motown, Rock, Rockin Blues, and anything you throw at him. He is totally amazing and my best find as a rising talent that I have seen in over 30 years. To hear is to believe.
Chip Skaggs, Trombone. Over 30 years as a studio and live performer with several name acts. Opens for several names at the Majestic Theater and plays with the USSA Jazz Band. Ask him any question related to music and be prepared to receive an education on who played what, when and with whom. Chip is comfortable with everything from jazz, blues, swing, polka
bands to classical.
Rick Thomas, Trumpet and Flugel Horn. What can I say… the guy is an awesome Jazz Player, does stuff like, Feels So Good, Blood Sweat and Tears and all standards, and sings good to boot. Ask him and he can play it. Day gig is a music teacher for a New Braunfels middle school and has his work cut out for him during the school year with kids and the performing arts. Also has a CD out with his old group (Four of a Kind) very cool.
So, there you have it. This is why you can get a lot of bang for your buck. We love to perform and want to help new talent with the exposure.
