Hello. I'm Dan from Florida (actually retired NYPD, translpanted here). Among other things , I do one hour "gigs" in assisted living and nursing home facilities. Nothing major here..Just once or twice a week. besides providing me with a little extra "beer and wing" money, it's very rewarding to try and bring a little joy into the lives of these people. I'm 58 yrs old so I will be there myself someday! (not too soon I hope!)
Now, I must confess while I can sing pretty well and that has always been a plus for me. I can't play keyboards...so i have a yamaha equipped with a floppy disk drive that allows me to "easy perform" (acronym for "Just fake it and it plays itself) Hope the feelings aren't hostile about this. I sfeel I still have to "entertain" etc...and it allows me to do what I couldn't do otherwise.
With that said, I enjoy it and the audience seems to enjoy it and I guess that is what really matters. I have a pretty good ability to "impersonate", things like Sinatra, wille Nelson, Elvis, etc, so that makes it a lot of fun as well
I've been doing this for only about a year. I have software that allows me to change the key, remove instruments etc, and am enjoying that as well. naturally, i am very excited about stumbling into this site and I have one question for now
I want to pay for a full membership at midimart, and it says Forum members get some sort of discount. When I tried to join at the midimart site thru Paypal it didn't show any discount. I know it says when you join thru the forum you can get a discount but I can't seem to find out how to do that???
I also direct and perform ina Follies show, which takes us a whole year to put on. We are a senior group with over 70 members..Aged 50-85! I write skits for the show, and we also have a great choreographer that has the ladies doing Fosse style dancing. They actually won Platinum in an International dance Comp last year and are going to try again this summer! I'm so proud of them. Our show drew over 2000 in 4 days last March. I also use good midi conversions from time to time for the singers.
