Hi folks
I just thought I'd say hi and introduce myself. I'm Al and I've been a semi-pro musician for more years than I care to remember. I'm a synthesist/programmer by trade and a live keys player. I'm currently half of a gigging covers duo and so use MIDIs a fair bit, although a good deal of them undergo 'customisation' so the sounds aren't always GM!
This site looks pretty interesting and I'm glad I've become a member.
Cheers and have fun Al

Hi flicker66...
Have yourself a great time here. There may be a few questions from our members that you may be able to answer. None of us profess to know it all (except me --- lol), and are learning all the time.
Midi is one tool that we can all use, from solo artistes to full bands and keyboard players to guitarists.... What a versatile format midi is, like you say - GM is not always compatible, but midi's are made to tailor....
Have fun mate, good to know you.

Hello Al, There are so many talented people amongst the members of this forum - it's amazing some of the questions that come up and someone always seems to know the answer. Apart from that they are a great bunch. Enjoy. Best regards, Roger

Why, thank you everyone most kindly!
I hail from New Malden, a one-horse dormitory suburb on the boundary of Surrey and southwest London in dear old Blighty. Right now we're gearing up for a heavy snow fall overnight. Being the UK, everything tends to grind to a halt once the weather behaves slightly out of the ordinary!
MIDI-wise I use some unusual kit. The heart of my system is an ancient Atari STE 1040 computer (roughly 1993 vintage) which handles the sequencing side of things, running Passport MasterTracks Pro v. 3.6 (a really superb 64-channel sequencer). Some of my gear is GM-compatible but a lot isn't, being early MIDI as in mid-eighties vintage. I generally like a balance between 'pure' synthesis and sampled sounds as I cut my teeth on genuine analogue synthesis over twenty years ago.
Most of what I do now is tailored towards Goldeneye, the covers duo I'm a member of. I'm often on the lookout for the slightly more unusual female hits of the past MIDI file-wise. Our view is that a lot of people expect the same old stuff live in a pub and they aren't suprised much. We aim to surprise people!
Cheers Al

Hi Al and welcome from me also. Sometimes I am a little slow in the welcoming department, not that I'm lazy or anything but sometimes...................ah, well, no need for excuses, I am a lazy so and so at times. ;D Anyway, please enjoy your visits to our community and if you have any concerns tell us about them and we will ignore you. Only kidding
