Can anyone tell me the purpose of midi controller 119. I am unable to find out what it does.

According to the official MIDI list cc119 is "undefined". Doesn't help does it? JohnG.

It's true that it is/was an undefined controller in GM standards but these days it's actually most commonly used by sequencers programming with TC-Helicon products like VoiceWorks in mind. It is used to turn the Voiceworks Global Harmony control off and on ie: 0-63 = off, 64-127 = on. It has the effect of holding and releasing the harmony "chord" in the sequence. Some other effects and processors also use this one, usually voice processors. One well-known programmer uses it a lot in his XG sequences. You can safely delete it from a midi file. Cheers, Dave.

Thanks for that little gem Dave. And, pray, what is it used for in XG files and who is the programmer? I await enlightenment. JohnG.

lol... you'd have to ask him that! The programmer is Paul Williamson, an Aussie guy who does some great pro sequences and does a lot of XG work for Singlouder. I think it's a controller he uses when he's recording and mixing his stuff. It looks like he's assigned it as a chord hold function to me. Enlightenment? We're all out of that but I think we're expecting some next week! Cheers, Dave.
