I have a question. Is it possible to have the recent message archive number upped to at least 100 rather than the 35 as it is set to now?
I'm asking because it's so much easier to check for newer messages that way rather than hunting through each and every board. The problem is MIDIMart is so busy that 35 gets eaten up very quickly, and I still miss plenty of newer posts even when I come once or twice a day to look. Thanks in advanced

Good idea JazzCat,
Yep, I think I'm in support of this too. I sometimes find, if I've been busy for a day or two and not able to log in, I come back and the recent messages don't go back nearly far enough. I'm not sure whether 100 might be too much but at least, say 50, although sometimes even that hasn't been enough in the past. Maybe 60 or 70?
I know it's a balance with consumed bandwidth and sending unnecessary messages. As an idea, would there maybe be a way that the member could choose how many messages to view, with the default set at 35 but an ability to up the number, just like looking at people's individual posts or setting the log in time? So maybe 35, 50, 75 and 100? I know I'd find it quite useful occasionally.
Just an idea.
Best regards, JohnG.

I don't think you can set it to have a choice of how many to view. Ya got one number and that's it. And ,for MIDIMart I don't think 100 is too many. Often there are that many in a very short time.

Sorry JazzCat, I'm not disagreeing just commenting that probably for most people 35 is adequate. So we're not wasting bandwidth by making that (100) the default. Yep, I know it isn't a standard feature, but it ought to be possible to write a little routine that gives an input function at the foot of the main page so that it's possible to change the number of messages seen at one go. There's a similar feature when you view someone's profile. You can input quite a large number there (maybe too big?) and see all their posts going back some time. It's a relatively simple thing to do in html and, I would have thought, well within the coding capabilities of our illustrious moderators. On the other hand it could be programmed into your profile and therefore picked up from a preset and actioned. Probably much easier to do at the foot of the main page though. (IMHO). Just a thought, JohnG.

I think when we first stated this forum, 30 - 35 was adequate, but as time as past and the forum has grown, it is time it was lifted....
I'm sure Pat will lift the limit to 100.... Thanks for bringing this up Cat and John...

Yep, today was a case in point. Normally (most days) I find the last post I looked at somewhere near the foot of the 35 last posted. Not today. I'm having to work through the various sections. Unless it is old age creeping on, and I forgot was I last looked at. (a more frequent occurrence these days, I find). Oh well! John er? G.

Thanks in advanced I see where you're coming from and will set that up with immediate effect. I seem to remember Jacqui mentioning something like this before but back then things were a bit slower going Anyway, we'll set it to a 100, which should cover all possibilities

And a big thank you to ... Jazz erm oh yes ... Cat for the suggestion in the first place. The actual syndrome is known as AAADD or Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder. An ex-colleague of mine from ICL wrote a wonderful article describing the symptoms for the ICL pensioners magazine. I'll try to get his permission to post the article here for you. Hey! Where can I get that Viagra/Prozac mixture? Sounds better than my Ginseng+Ginko Biloba thingytail. Would you believe that the word I wrote here was the male for chicken. You know, the one with a comb on the top of it's head but it changed cokctail into thingytail? Now where did I put my house keys? JohnG.
