Hello All, Please excuse my ignorance but In July I will be playing at a 60th birthday bash for an ex New Zealander who has been over here a couple of years, and I was just wondering what chart music they would have been used to over there. My repertoire consists of Beatles,Bobby Vee, Searchers,Manfred Mann,Hollies, Herman's Hermits,Niel Diamond,Tremeloes,Foundations,Etc. Infact it consists of 60s70s&80s Pop. I can't ask them because it's going to be a surprise party,And to be honest I just have not got the time to change my repertoire.I hope someone can enlighten me on this, Perhaps someone has been on holiday over there they may be able to let me know what they heard on the radio or in the pub's and club's.Sorry I will not be able to reply for a week as I am going on holiday to the Lake District...........Pete.

I just tried the link and it did not work for some reason. If this is the case for you as well, do the following: google "Catsfield´s Oldies Music Chart - Homepage". I found it by searchterm "charts New Zealand oldies". Hope this works for you.

Hi Shezza I would not worry too much - your repertoire sonds fine - the NZ charts have been dominated by a mixture of British and American pop hits for years with a bit of Aussie and local stuff thrown in - (more of the latter in recent years) but a 60 year old from NZ will know all that stuff you mentioned and will also know some 50s rock n roll and ballads as well - e.g. Elvis, Chuck Berry, Pat Boone, etc. If you want more suggestions let me know as I often play for that age group here (both in dances and discos) so can send you heaps of song suggestions - but as I said at the start I wouldn't really worry too much as your 60's /70's /80's repertoire should cover it and you won't have time to learn a lot of neew stuff anyway regards Roy Setchfield Waiuku, New Zealand
