Hi all, Having got a fantastic response from "How old are you" and being the nosy person that I am, I would love to know how members perform IE. Do you use Midi file/mp3 along with Guitar or Bass or Keyboard or are you a Vocalist. I am a vocalist and use midi files along with my Yamaha 3000, But I would really love to ditch the keyboard, and use my Danelectro Longhorn Bass.......Pete.

Good question.
I use a Yamaha keyboard that accepts midi files when performing but I am thinking of giving this up and returning to guitar but still with midis, only this time either on mini disk or transferring them to MP3 and using them via an MP3 player.

I always feel isolated from the audience behind a keyboard, that's why I want to get back onto bass, with Midi files, Plus I think when one is playing a guitar you can be a lot more mobile, which must add something to the visual side of things.........Pete.

I play a Yamaha Tyros 1, sometimes using the built in styles and other times I use midi backing which I either programme myself or obtain from this excellent site

In my duo "down under in OZ" we load our midi's, usually converted to mp3, into lap tops. Very quick and easy. I play a 1961 Maton Supreme electric acoustic and my partner supplies lead or harmony vocals and plays percussion. We share the lead singer roll fairly equally. You are right, being able to move, at least around your stage area, is important to any performance, you cant do that from behind a keyboard, well not as well anyway.

Sorry wee joke there lol lol i use my yamaha keyboard for some of the files and my mini disc player for the rest I find that some of the files lose their drive when converted to minidisc. My bass player use a minidisc player for his tracs We have the bass lines deleted from all our tracs so the bass is `live`being a drummer i only can manage `major`chords but at least i`m trying lol lol

In the trio I play with, we start with acoustic stuff - swapping keyboard, guitars & mandolin (I play an Ovation 12 string & Mando, jump to a Washburn when I'm feeling lazy, my wife plays a Cort and our mate plays whichever guitar he's bought that week (lol) and the keyboard. Then we'll up the pace adding Minidiscs for the dance stuff, I'll change to my Fernandez and my mate to his electric Cort.
Warren ;D
ps hey weegeo - have you noticed my signature block (lol)....

What I've been doing lately is taking midi files and chopping them up into sections (i have a motif keyboard) that way each section will loop until i go to the next section. This way I can extend the song to get a good long dance in. Or go nuts on the solo until it's time to head for the ending. For me it allows some room to play it differently each night. art
