HI All I'm in the middle of sequencing a track (I'll be there by Gerry and the Pacemakers) I used Band in a Box for the basic track and i'm adding strings etc. as i go along. Problem is when i play it back in Cakewalk 9 ,every 8 bars or so it seems to stutter.I'm at a loss to explain how this has happened can anyone shed some light on this? I'd be interested to find out what's wrong so i can avoid a repitition. I can send the file to anyone who'd like to help Thanks Eddie

Hi Eddie, I imagine you've used cut and paste in the song and have a glitch or event "overload". In CW just check each track in the Events edit page at the "stutter" point and look for; a bunch of controllers all on the same tick (delete 'em). a sysex command (delete it) or a truncated note (delete or extend it if it's needed). It probably plays OK in Media Player because MP doesn't recognise or relay some midi data. You can send me the file by attaching it to a PM here on the forum if you need help. Cheers, Dave.

Because it isn't glitching in media player I believe it was a case of CPU overload, but I wouldn't be able to confirm that without seeing the file in question.
I'd also be happy to look at the file as well.

Thanks for all the advice/help received. Dave,i checked the file for any data that shouldn't be there and couldn't see anything.I did the basic track using biab so i didn't use cut and paste, however, Jazzcat noticed the length of the sequence was 10 minutes.I've no idea how that happened,i thought it was only 3 minutes. Jazzcat, the edited file you sent back plays fine, but interestingly,i changed the original file as per your suggestions and the glitches are still there---very strange. I've had this glitching problem before. Not on all files but some. Is it possible there is something wrong with the Cakewalk programme? Is there an easy way to check this? I look forward to your comments regards Eddie

There are a number of factors that could be involved. One thing for sure is that is is not the sequence itself.
The easiest way to check it is to use another sequencing program. If you can work in that and have no glitches occurring, you've probably ruled Cakewalk as the culprit. If you need another sequencing program to test that theory out on, let me know and I'll supply you with one.
If you went back to your original file I'm going to gander a guess that you didn't re-channel your string track to an unused channel. However, if you did re-channel it and/or delete the BIAB generated string track, then that shouldn't be the cause.
As for the sequence being 10 minutes long, I can only assume you had BIAB set to repeat the sequence a given number of times, and that translated to 10 minutes worth of repeats in the converted MIDI file. Oh, and remember to write to my addy or send a PM as well, as I often miss posts on the forum that are directed to me.
