Hi Levi, I use Power Tracks. I think I'm using v 11 or v12 now but this applies to PT9 too. Are you saving as .MID rather than a .SEQ file (midi plus audio)? Not that it makes much difference to your problem, the .seq file saves changes too but only plays in PT. If your changes aren't being saved it's most likely because the file contains information after the start point, either sysex or controller & patch, which is resetting the file back to it's original settings after you start it. Check out the data in the individual tracks looking for sysex and controller data or post the midi here and I'll check it out for you. Cheers, Dave.

Hi Dave,
I too, am having trouble understanding some issues with Powertracks Pro (ver 9.0) 1. How do I adjust volume of certain tracks? Can I simply position the mouse over the volume slider on each track, hit save, and the volume is adjusted? 2. How I do change patches and save them?
Each time I have tried to save volume and patch changes, the midi file just goes back to how it was originally. As far as the sysex info appearing after the start point, I wouldn't know. Dont know how to read sysex info. Bunch of F0 F1 F3...whatever. If by some miracle I am able to locate this sysex info, what would I do to it? Delete it? Change it? I suspect that the location of the sysex info is part of the problem. But, more the problem is my limited understanding of Powertracks Pro Audio. I wish that the tutorial didn't assume so much. Or I wished I was smart as you, and were able to figure this program out. I've had Powertracks (ver 9.0) for over 2 years, but still dont know what to do with it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Charlie

Yes, Charlie, that's exactly how you do it. It works fine here. You just use the volume slider and Patch select routine to change these things. It should save these changes easily. If you want to do a comparison use "save-as" and rename the midi. You can confirm that it's working by using one of the PT demo sequences like JaysBlues, just try changing the Piano Patch and and move the volume slider, then save it as JaysBlues2. Now, close PT > restart it > open JaysBlues2 and see if it has the new Patch and volume. The problem you mentioned most often arises with midi files that have program-select and cc7 data (and/or sysex data) embedded in the actual tracks after the start point. As an example; say Track 1 is Acoustic Piano and you change it to Bright Piano on the Track 1 patch select but in the track data itself it has a program event which re-selects Acoustic Piano, you're back where you started. The way to solve it is to check out the Track itself with the Event list editor view and either delete the offending patch select or change it to the one you want. Ditto with cc7 volume events. Sysex data can also include a reset followed by program patch and volume (and many other setup parameters) but you can usually safely delete the sysex without killing the midi if you want to see if this is the cause. Just btw, I always remove all sysex data from the start of a midi (I can get it to sound how I want without sysex at the front) but I always have a GM2 sysex re-set at the end of every midi to avoid any weird controller changes, patch-selects or pitchbends hanging up for the next midi. I've tried every conceivable combination of midifile setup and I've found this to be the most glitch-free routine for live work. If you have a particular file that's giving you trouble, upload it or put it on a file-share site and I'll check it out for you. Feel free to ask any questions, I'm happy to help. Cheers, Dave.

Wow! Dave...that's some really good info. I will do just as you have described and see if I can get the results I want. If I encounter a midi file that is giving me problems as far as editing, I will upload it to you. Thank you for sharing this info. It's the main reason I am and will always be a member here at Midi-mart.
Thanks! Charlie
