Hi all my technical friends,
Can anyone suggest a program for playback of my mp3 backing tracks using my laptop live on stage.
I need to use keystrokes only(no mouse) have a play list, and also auto pause at the end of the song. Many Thanks,Don

Hi Don, One nifty little player that'll do what you require is "Juke" by Wolosoft. It has a great user-interface, a minimalistic footprint (uses very small resources) and can be configured to do everything that you require. And... best of all, it's FREE. You may have to tinker with the setup configuration for your situation but I've used it successfully for years to play midi, mp3, wma, and cd's. I haven't used it for a while for midi but I still use an older version for my between sets music (on continuous play). It's never crashed once in thousands of hours of use. Cheers, Dave.

Hey Don, I use a program called "Showplay" that is able to do everything you listed and so much more. No, it's not free (Dave, you're right about Juke...it's great for playing MP3's during break). Showplay is a GM player that can display words (karoake style). You can raise/lower keys, speed up/slow down tempos, change sound patches, and save.....all why the midi file is playing. Very user friendly. Check out their website. www.pridecorp.com and you can see for yourself. If you cant get to the website...try googleing "showplay". It's been a while since I went to their website and they are constantly upgrading. I have run Showplay on a laptop for over 3 years and have never had crashed. Really good (somewhat expensive) program. Chaeck it out!

I'm not sure about the new version, Don, I don't have it loaded on this pc. I'll check it out on a day or two once the weekend gigs are done. Go to the setup menu in options, I think... I'll get back to you. Meanwhile just hit the spacebar to pause the playlist between songs. Cheers, Dave.

Hi Don, Just further to my post above; I just installed the new version of Juke and it looks like some of the control functions have been changed since the original version I had years ago. I've been having a play with it and, to use it without a mouse, you need to use the "p" key to play and the "s" key to stop. You can still navigate up and down the playlist with the cursor arrows, add 10 sec pauses, and if you hit the "n" key it'll immediately play the next song etc. You can set it up to do most of what you want in the Tools menu > Options. I'll have to mess around with it a bit to see if I can figure out some settings for your purposes, in the meantime you might want to try Winamp or one of the other free players amongst the thousands that are available. Maybe someone else will chime in with a favourite pc MP3 player. I'll get back to you if I figure out some simple keystrokes or get anything else for you. Cheers, Dave.
