Is there anybody familiar with this old version of Cakewalk. I am trying to change the velocity in the drum track on the cymbal section only, without affecting the snare etc. From what I understand, this version of Cakewalk doesn't have the ability to alter one part of the drum track To over come this problem I am copying the cymbal section into another track and then changing the velocity value there. Any clues on this one???

Hi Steve I use the Interpolate function find it very handy.........see if this page is of any use to you... .Scaling Values is the one you need I think.................regards......Barry www.digifreq.com/digifreq/article.asp?ID=51

Hi Steve,
Select the drum track and open the piano roll editor page > click on the piano key/note/drum that matches the cymbal you want to change > this will select just that note rather than the whole track > go to Edit > midi data > velocity > do your thing; raise, lower etc. Cheers, Dave.

Thanks Dave, I wish it was that easy, It doesn't have MIDI data, velocity, in Edit. Don't worry I have tried everything before I posted the request for help here, that's why I think this version (which is an old version) doesn't have this feature. Unless there is a difference between your instructions of "the piano roll editor page" and "piano roll view" which is what I am looking at.

Wow, that sounds odd, Steve. Call me and I'll go thru it with you over the phone ie: with you in front of your pc. No, Piano Roll view is the same thing as "piano roll editor" (i probably invented that term, LOL!) I'll PM my home number in case you've lost it but I'm gigging on Wed night so probably Thurs will be best. As Barry/Freeway said you can also use the Interpolate Function and I can walk you thru that (if you have it, that is!). Cheers, Dave.

If you "run cal" and then "split note to tracks" all drum parts will be on their own track and you can change everything except volume on the different drum parts, you can even add effects to the different parts if you want to. Make sure you have the drum track selected before running Cal.

Barry, You probably don't have any cal files loaded. You may need to download and save the CAL files to your CW folder first, they need to be in the main CW folder. I store mine in a folder named "cal" in the main CW folder. If you don't have the cal files (you can easily find most of them on most CW-user sites) I can email a collection to you, just PM me. Cheers, Dave.

Gibbo, Does Sonar also use cal scripts? If so, are older ones, like for Cakewalk pro audio 9 compatible with different versions of Sonar? I should be getting Sonar 7 shortly.

Hi Cat, I'm not 100% sure but I think, yes. The midi part of Sonar is basically the same code as in CW9 as far as I recall and CAL= Cakewalk Application Language so they should both still speak the same language! LOL I used to have Sonar somewhere but not currently loaded on my midi-work pc. Hope this helps. Cheers, Dave.
