Hello all, It is the birthday tomorrow of one of my best friends in music, David Alexander, who sadly left us just happy memories of himself, when he died in Feb, 1995. I worked with David many, many times, and made most of his backing tapes for him, arragement of his songs, and played in the band at all of his recording sessions. Very few people have ever heard of him. He went to school with the legendary Tom Jones, and the two of them had very similar voices and repetoire - in my opinion, David was the better singer, but sadly never really made it 'Big', and worked mainly around the pubs and clubs in the Midlands and North. Working with his wife, Beryl, who was also a singer and had a stupid Duck puppet for a comedy routine. He later moved to Tenarife in the Canary Islands, to entertain holidaymakers. His web page is here, if you are interested to learn more about him : - www.davidalexander.co.uk/page3.htmlHere he is singing his heart out, as usual. I am sure you will agree what a fine voice, and talent he had. (If you listen carefully, particularly in No2, you can also hear me playing the Yamaha FX 20 plus Yamaha DX7 in the backing!) 1. www.4shared.com/file/16246742/ec8e5d6b/David_Alexander_-_Everything_Loves_Supposed_To_Be.html 2. www.4shared.com/file/16254527/5e533b37/David_Alexander_-_The_Answer_to_Everything.htmlI hope you are able to see this, David, or perhaps read my thoughts, when I often think of you. Tony

I never met David but, having worked on the northern club circuit for over 30 years, his name is still legend as are his songs. I think the only thing that actually held him back was the fact that the industry just didn't want any serious competition to Tom Jones but that's just my theory on the matter.
In the North of England, at least, he lives on thanks to the many songs he left behind!

A well deserved tribute.
I agree with you Tony, I think he had a better singing voice and he sang his songs with feeling, he has been sadly missed.
You must be very proud to have worked with him over the years.

Thanks for Mp3 songs; holiday makers from S.Wales always are always singing his praises, I can now understand why.

Hi Tony. I am so pleased to read your piece about David. I am a huge fan of his, in fact earlier this year, I recorded one of his songs, Everything Love supposed to be. I only hope I did it justice.
