I want to edit midi files in Garageband but when I import the files they sound tinny. They sound fine in Q-time, and seem to import ok into garageband with each channel filling it's own track. But they sound awful
Any ideas on why this happens or what I need to fix it?
I use a mac powerbook g4 1.67ghz 1 gB ram
cheers, wayne

Steely I use garageband also. I'm no expert but I believe that since garageband does not conform to general midi standards that its choice of instruments when importing a midi is at best a guess. Also if the midi has an effect turned on, such as reverb or chorus, when imported into garageband these effects wont be on. Instead the default of the chosen instrument will be on. by choosing other instruments and turning effects on or off in garageband you can get midis to sound pretty good. Also do you use easybeat ? It makes great midi editor and front end for garageband. It even exports as a garageband file.

Thanks mastercaster for this info and also the great links to mac articles.
I've purchased Band in a box for PC after trialing it on both the mac and pc.
