can anyone tell me if you can add a fx ie delay chorus reverb in certain parts of a track in cakewalk/sonar or do you have to copy and paste the section you want the fx on to another track first

Is it a midi track or an audio track you want to apply the effects to ?

I assume it is an Audio track your refering to, yes you can add effects to individual btracks
