Has anyone had a problem with the Edirol Virtual Sound Canvas crashing their computer? I have a Dell Dimension desktop running XP that occasionally (but not always) crashes when I'm using VSC. I have used VSC without a problem on my old AST, and on an IBM T22 laptop. The AST was Win98, and the laptop is XP pro.

If you compter does hyper threading that might be the cause. The VSC does not work with hyper threading my pc does the same thing you can sometimes get round it by taking your time when doin a task with it ie wait a few sec when it loads up load your midi and wait 10 / 20 secs b4 you play it. if your pc does not do hyper threading then prolly a conflict. If it supports hyper threading u might be able to switch it off in the pcs bios

I had the exact same problem...... and my fix for my problem, which was suggested from a midimart member (Jane) was to delete all systex entries in the event list. Then no more crashes for me

Steve's nailed it with the Sys-ex and also the channel aftertouch can cause the VSC to hang notes.

Hi Deltahotel yes I have a Dell Dimension PC running XP Pro and I also have the problem of it crashing quite often when running VSC - like you I can run it OK on other non Dell computers - I have taken on board earlier comments form other Midimart members re sysex and after touch issues but I am not totally convinced that eliminates all the problems as I have had it crash without either of those things present - I also contacted Roland NZ but they were not really any help at all There has to be something in the Dell hardware setup - the hyperthreading mentioned above may be a clue but I think the easiest option is to just run it on a PC that isn't prone to the crashing problems - much less frustrating regards Roy Setchfield Waiuku, New Zealand

Hi Levi2 Yes I am using V3.23 as well - don't think my Dell Dimension does hyperthreading - however now you have me worried as I was about to put it onto a Toshiba laptop that does have hyperthreading - Ii will try it anyway cheers Roy Setchfield Waiuku, NZ

Hi Roy give it a try m8 the Pc i put it on does hyper threading and the prog crashed a few times but i kinda get round it taking things slow ie load a midifile in and wait a few secs then do your next task and wait a few secs. I found out that it crashed when you rushed things or try to do 2 tasks at once have you seen edirols hyper canvas its not a stand alone like vsc but a vst/dxi plugin the sounds are brilliant levi2

Hi. I disabled hyperthreading in the bios of my Dell Dimension 8400, and I have not had VSC crash since. Hopefully it is OK now. I haven't noticed any performance issues with hyperthreading disabled.

i used to have this happen once in a while and i found it to be one of the files i was trying to open was corrupted some how. I just opened the file in cakewalk and made a minor change and resaved it and Bam...worked fine. ;D
