Do any of our friends in Ireland and/or Australia follow the International Rules Series. For those who don't know this is a hybrid game developed so the Irish and the Aussies can compete against eachother at an international level. Simply a cross between Gaelic and Australian Rules football.
Any thoughts
Guilty
PS. I notice our English friends haven't been talking cricket even though they hold 'The Ashes'.

By football I presume you're talking soccer. I took a keen interest in the world cup and thought Australia did very well and were a bit unlucky to lose to the eventual winners. I don't have much interest otherwise unless it's Aussie Rules Football.

I think your beloved football would be a better game without so much 'diving'. Maybe make the net a bit wider too...this would fix the draw and penalty shootout results. I bet you just love that suggestion In Aussie Rules we get a point for missing the goals ;D Regards Guilty

Hi ya guilty watched a few games over the years fair play to the amature players they would put the premiere league(soccer) players to shame ..no millions of pound contracts here but they still give a hundred per cent...anyhow.. it used to be good then the fights became part of the entertainment ( which the aussies started..lol) now its got boring ( bring back the fights ) the last couple of games wre terrible .. i think they played in Galway..did,nt see the final score ( Ire.48 40 Austrila ) cos it was a very bad game .. ..my opinion it,s played and will be played in the smaller county stadiums over here cos they won,t fill croke park anymore ..(even though the next game will be played there and its probably sold out ) ..the powers that be will move it to different venues( for the good of us ) ..cos why have an big empty stadium on tv when you can have a small filled stadium .....which looks better..am i a cynical wee so & so or wat ... any way guilty just my humble opinion ...By the way guilty this team have maintained Australia's record of not having won a Test match on Irish soil since 2002. ..So to answer your question yes i follow it sometimes ..lol

G'day Dingadong04 & Guilty, being a Melbourne lad I follow AFL avidly, and take an interest in the International Rules matches. The Aussies are going to be much more physical in the next match, so there should be a lot more fighting between the sides. I don't know if this will help the Aussies beat the Irishmen though, as we have too much trouble kicking the round ball. Kind Regards, Big Steve.

Dingadong....you wanted the fights back and you got them. I missed the game (5am over here) but all reports say it was rough and tough.
Big Steve....who do you follow in AFL? I'm a Kangaroos supporter.

Two points: 1. From the highlights package I think the Irish started the rough stuff but bit off more than they could chew. 2. What's a video? Hopefully the series continues as the crowd numbers were great and it is a good game where both countries can compete internationally.

Hmmmmmm - Now then... A quick lesson in Australian and English terminology just to clear things up a bit - ;D Australian Rules Football is played with a rugby ball - and rugby is called football but do not mix this up with football in Oz because this is Aussie Rules Football played with a rugby ball that is different to a football that English players play football with which Ozzies call soccer . So with the current series of Gaelic Football which is played with a football that is round and known as a soccer ball but with rules that are more like Aussie Rules Football rather than soccer Rules it makes for an interesting conversation down here. Then there's thongs - but that's another story..... Hope that clears things up for both sides of the equator Rockabilly

Seems like the series is doomed ,if the irish press are to be believed , but some GAA players are calling for the end of it as well and as you said guilty its the chance for players to play for their country , this would be a shame i have,nt so far read a good word in any of the press her in Ireland what sort of reports are you reading Adelaide ..i still have,nt watched the video ..apparently it runs on electricity..lol

It does seem the series is doomed which is a shame. The press here don't have a problem with the rough stuff but do have concerns about the series in general. Many Aussie Rules fans don't like the concept and think we should make you guys play with an oval ball . I just like supporting my country in any international sporting event. When we get electricity here in Melbourne I'm going to buy a thing called a DVD ;D

Hi Bit of a fuss over the Oz player grabbing the Irish Landlord in a head lock and generally looking like the series only has the bad press associated with it as a result. Not seen much footage of the game other than a news clip associated with this incident (the player was sent back home.......... a bit like the really old days really - criminals of a different kind!! - hence POMS - Prisoners Of Mother England......don't ask)

I.ve been watchin some highlights on Fox News and i must say if it was a boxing match it would have been stopped..as someone who has worked with young people ( soccer Gaelic games soccer & boxing ) it really saddens me to see any players in any sport resort to violence especially when there were over 20,000 young members of GAA attending the game , is this the example that should be set? There is enough talent between the two sports to make this an intresting series but if players ( on both sides ) are allowed to get away with the type of behaviour that was witnessed at Croke Park then maybe the powers that be will have to agree to cancel the series . The sad thing is that the whole series will be remembered for the violence some of Autralias play in the other 3 quarters was magic..all the best cubb
PS guilty how is DVD spelt ? im gonna get me one of them ..lol
all the best for now

I must agree with everything you say Cubb.....you can play tough without resorting to violence. As for the spelling of DVD I'll have to buy one and see what it says on the box.

G'day everyone, Guilty will be pleased to know that I am also a Kangaroos supporter in the AFL. ;D I saw the second International rules match from late in the second quarter, so most of the fighting had ended by then. The Aussies play much better after they soften up their opposition. It's a shame that in every series the fights are highlighted more than the game itself, but a record crowd in Ireland says that people love a bit of biffo. It will be interesting to see if the GAA go through with their threat to end the series, as I would think that they've just made a nuts load of money, and would like this to continue. On an AFL front, I'm glad that the Kangaroos re-signed Drew Petrie, and I hope that we get a few decent players with our early draft picks. At least we haven't been stupid enough to do another deal with Hawthorn, and be a laughing stock in 2007. Talk again soon, Big Steve. ;D

I'm glad to hear from another 'roos supporter. (There's not many of us) Totally agree with the Hawthorn thing....do they ALL suffer depression? As for the International Rules series I do hope it continues. It's not our fault the Irish started the rough stuff and couldn't finish it. ;D
