Hi I have a technics kn5000 keyboard which I used to connect to my computer using midi leads from the keyboard into the computer using the joystick port. I was then able to play midifiles stored on my computer through the keyboard. I have since changed computer and although it has a joystick port it does not have a sound card. The sound is intergrated into the motherboard like many of today's computers. The connection does not work now. I cannot get a midi input to show now and was wondering if this is because I do not have a soundcard installed. Should I still be able to use midi through an intergrated sound card. There is no problem playing midifiles on my computer, just trying to connect to another keyboard. Any ideas or suggestions will be appreciated.

hrmm the only prob i had was a midi plug on one end into tone module and other straight into joyport this didnt work at all even with a proper sound card so it might be cable. What i did was buy a proper midi interface ie abox with the ports on. But ive also got a laptop since then i bought a usb midi interface. only thing i can suggest is look in the midi device prefs on your sequencer progs in the midi in/out devices see if theres anything there. Maybe you might have to go into the bios on your motherboard and do some changes there. If you cannot get it to work well its either buying a usb midi device or maybe borrow a soundcard of someone install it and try that.

Hi Many thanks for the helpful suggestions. It is a challenge now rather than a problem.

Mike Surely if the soundcard is built in to your PC and there is still a joystick port then just add it to that. As far as getting your PC to recognise the Joystick/MIDI port then I think that you need to go into your control panel and do your audio/midi adjustments from there

i had the same problem, although i had a sound card.the problem is all new cards dont seem to have a joystick port as nearly everything goes through the usb sockets.my midi/controller has a usb connection, but also has a dedicated midi out which uses it,s own bank of sounds.so i installed an old soundblaster live card in along side my new card.you should have a spare pci socket on your motherboard, install an old or second hand card you may have.install the drivers, but not any software.you should then pickup your keyboard input on whatever program you use by clicking on the options/midi devices/then your soundcard.i know this may sound long winded, but my keyboard isn,t recognized by using the usb in.it only uses the pc, sounds.hope this may help you!! i have done it in mine and it works a treat.if you have any prob,s let me know. oldsage
