Very well said taperboy - as you said there'll be definitely a majority that dont like this filth. If public opinion could be aroused to influence the Congress to take action now, I'm sure they'll listen. By the way, let me make it very clear that I have never insinuated about any race or religion propogating this filth. Its in the mind of perverted beings and this perversion is not coloured white, black, brown or yellow. Yes, taperboy, your observation of women accepting abuses and losing every thread of decency, is, I am sad to say, true, but then again, lets not abandon these misled people too. I am absolutely certain they are good people who have just been led astray. We should believe in ourselves and believe that we can ignite atleast a wee spark in the consciences of these prodigals. They will return home, but to make it happen we need to have the support of everyone, especially the Government.

Shyam, I've been watching this thread unfold and I applaud your efforts but I think you're really swimming against the tide. It has been flowing out for a loooong time. Stand-up Comedian, Lenny Bruce, was amongst the first to use the F-word repeatedly on stage, he was tried and found guilty of obscenity in the 60s and later pardoned posthumously; en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lenny_BruceLenny Bruce was arrested here in Australia in the 60s for using the F-word in his show... nowadays it's hard to find a comedian here who doesn't use it! Performing artistes have followed suit to some degree. I think it's more a reflection on society than individual artists. We live in a "spectator society" where many seek their "fulfillment" from watching and listening to the antics of others (hence the huge reality-TV boom, tabloid popularity and paparazzi-plague etc). Society is obviously rewarding the perpetrators! If you're truly offended by this element, I'm afraid the only effective action is to ignore and shun them; don't buy their products, don't go to their shows, turn off etc. The idea of censorship and banning only leads to more interest in a spectator-ish society. That's my 10 cents worth... just like "global-warming", we better learn to live with it. Cheers, Dave.

Gibbo, I've been doing a lot of homework on the subject and I hope I wont land up being a spectator , watching the filth fly by, but you are right, Gibbo, this looks like a "battle" I wont win. The tide is away from people like us and I dread to think how the future will sound like. No, I will not ignore or shun them nor will I turn off. I will continue doing what I've been doing fpr years now, asking friends around me not to use bad language . Today, most of them find it embarrassing to use this language in front of me and when they do so, thoughtlessly, they apologise!!! That does feel good. I'm not a puritan and I do swear quite often, especially in traffic, but my swear words are restricted to "Bloody Fool", "Bum", "Swine" etc. The tone of my anger and the volume conveys the same effect as the other harsher words. Even if nothing comes of this debate, I hope we can atleast, in our own separate ways, urge those around us to take it easy on the language and give the jaws a little rest from the foul Shall we, atleast, try ?

Shyam, My thoughts above only relate to the subject of the thread ie: Filth In Songs. I'm not talking about general conduct or swearing in conversation. I'm definitely not referring to you as a spectator, performing artists and creative people are usually the exact opposite, and as I said in my opening comment, "I applaud your efforts". Those who engage in discussions like this thread are participants, not spectators. The spectator-ism I'm referring to is a general malaise amongst some members of society who get their stimulation from TV, tabloids, gossip etc. You know them by the fact that they seldom contribute anything in life, they just take whatever is on offer. What I'm suggesting as effective action is actually the only way to combat this stuff in art, you have to simply ignore, shun and refuse to support it. (By "turn off" I mean turn off the radio/TV!) For the most part "filth in songs" is all about creating attention and making money not corrupting kids, if there was little profit in it there'd be little marketing of it. I agree with your other thoughts; foul language in conversation is abhorrent and I always let people know it's unacceptable, we each do what we can and hope to set a good example. You have my good wishes for success, cheers, Dave.

Dave (gibbo) ....... point well taken.- thanks for the support - lets see where this goes. In the meanwhile, I got the composition "The Goodness Song" ready but I need to record it decently and upload it. I wish I could get you guys to lend to it, like filling in with the lead etc. If not anything, atleast we would have made a song with contributions from musicians all over the globe. Amazing and heartening to know that it can be done.

WELL SAID rtaper ....... we could atleast send joint petitions to our respective governments to take notice. Supoort is the need of the hour. If we have that, we could atlleast send the petitions through MidiMart . It'll be a good worthy cause and Gleen and Pat could add a stamp of authenticity if they organised the compilation of the petitions and have it presented.

I MADE A POST TO EXPLAIN WHAT "ACLU" STANDS FOR, BUT IT WASN'T POSTED. I ALSO MADE A COMMIT ABOUT THE "N"WORD AND WAS TOLD I COULDN'T USE IT, EVEN THOUGH I'M A BLACK MAN. I WAS TRYING TO GET THE POINT ACROSS THAT IT SHOULD NEVER BE USED, WHETHER YOU'RE BLACK OR ANY COLOR. NOW, THE SAME WAY THIS BOARD DIDN'T LET ME USE IT HERE, DON'T YOU THINK THE GOV. CAN DO THE SAME THING ABOUT ANY MUSIC THAT HAS FILTH IN IT? I MEAN, I JUST TRIED TO WRITE IT AND IT WAS STOPPED. BUT AS LONG AS WE SIT AND NOT DO ANYTHING, IT'S GONNA GET WORSE. THIS IS SUPPOSE TO BE A GOV. FOR THE PEOPLE AND BY THE PEOPLE, SO WHEN ARE WE GOING TO START ASKING THE PEOPLE WE SEND TO OFFICE TO DO THE MAJORITY'S BIDDING, AND NOT THE MINORITY'S? I WOULDN'T KNOW HOW TO START THIS MOVEMENT, BUT IF SOMEONE ELSE DOES, OR SHOW ME HOW TO DO IT, COUNT ME IN! IT'S TIME FOR US TO GET MAD ENOUGH TO GET SOMETHING DONE. THEN WE CAN START ON MAKING YOUNG MEN PULL THEIR PANTS UPON THEIT BUTTS!

rtaper , right yiou are, but friend I'm getting a bit confused about the reaction of most - theres a sorry state of lcomplacency now and most seem to feel its okay to let things go by, just watch silently. I'm not talking about our Forum - I get this kinda "dont care" attitude even from people I speak to here. The English language is in the process of change and I',m told we should accept the change. It seems its a part of growth, a kind of evolution. I hear many scholars feel this way !!!! I'm depressed. Lets not talk about issues like saving the environment, air pollution etc etc etc. The world is being killed every second and we need the bad language to send it to oblivion. I'm really sorry this thread hasnt gone far, not started any fire, and though closed once and re-opened, the energy seems to have been lost. I guess I'll cry alone
