A crowd is a large number of people collected in a place ..... and in this context, a large number of people collected at a dance hall or at a theatre or at concert or at a restaurant, a pub or at a clubhouse. You may call them an audience if they are listening to you or watching you, but I guess its upto the entertainer to make the crowd thier audience , by getting their attention by getting across to them with their music, their jokes or anything interesting.

I agree with Jacquai...if the club wants me to joke with the crowd they should hire a comedian. I worked with a bass player who liked to talk a lot between songs. He really wanted to be a DJ and he was good. However, the audience would always say "shutup and sing". I always used to think I was a little short in the banter department but after that experience I don't worry about it anymore. When all is said and done, its the singing that's the most important. That doesn't mean I don't say a few things--I do, but I keep it to a bare minimum and if someone in the audience wishes to engage in light hearted banter I'll oblige. I think its all in how you read the audience. Most people are there to drink, play pool, watch TV, play the KENO and talk with their friends--they don't want me interrupting their conversations with some inane joke. If you're a good singer and have the right songs you should do just fine. civicman

I simply smile, wait for a few seconds.................tell them i'm in charge............i have the mic ..........and if anyonesteps outta line they get the one line verbals..............
No, only joking .........you have to talk to the crowd as it brings them along with you. Sometimes being a performer is one half musician and one half comedian.
I know which half i'm better at with a dozen beers in me though. lol ;D
