The Voice of Thin Lizzy. He was a sensational singer and bassist dieing at such a young age is sad. To me he was one of Ireland's greatest legends.
He died of heart failure and pneumonia on January 4, 1986 at the age of 36 after being rushed to hospital after suffering from a Heroine overdose

We quickly forget how long ago people pass-on. I was never a huge Lizzy fan but enjoyed playing 'Boys Are Back In Town' in my first band. We spend hours together working on the 2 part guitar solo but is was worth it.........it really kicked. Still get requests for it now but haven't played that song for over 20 years.

Thanks guys!
That appears to be the same midi file I used as a starting point.
I played in a Thin Lizzy Tribute band for awhile here in L.A. It was a lot of fun! There are a lot of great songs to play and there are quite a few people that like Thin Lizzy.
Phil was one of a kind. An awesome personality and songwriter. I met his mother at a Phillip Lynot tribute concert (which we played in) about 8 years ago at The Palace in Hollywood. John Norum and Billy Sheehan got up and jammed with us at one point and so did Carmine Appice. John Sykes was supposed to show up that night as well, but never made it.

I think there have been few bass guitarist/vocalists to match him over the years. That aggresive slightly phased driven bass sound used to hit you right between the chest & the gut...awesome. Must admit though, they were my favourite band for years & I saw them many times. Possibly the best being the Live & Dangerous tour of 78/79.
Great memories & some great songs...................

His statue now proudly stands in dublin, and rightly so. A true legend!!

The English Magazine "Classic Rock" in it's last 3 issue's has had excerpts from an unpublished book on Thin Lizzy, if your a Tin Lizzy fan it's a great and fascinating read!
