I thought it would be interesting to see what musical styles all members take inspiration from by having this poll. Cheers Gerry!!

I like most genres, with the exception of rap, but mostly.... I love Rock (and Roll), put another dime in the jukebox baby! Cheers, Dave.

Like the Blues, not all that keen on Jazz, Jazz always reminds me of Trad, so I voted Good Ol' Rock 'n' Roll

I can´t say I like a a special music style more than another. It depends more on the song/piece of music. It could be a classical piece, swing, traditional folk or rock´n roll etc etc. It´s easier to say what I don´t like – rap, dance and hard rock.
So I don´t know where to put my vote, Gerry.
Regards Lena

The question wasnt exactly "What is your favorite style of Music" The question is What type has INSPIRED you the most"
That is quite a different question.
I would have never classified blues and jazz together. They are entirely different animals.
But, because Jazz has mostly influenced me, I had to choose that category.

I'm with Lynn in that country and country rock are not the same as country and western and with Gibbo and others that I don't like rap - howver for inspiration I would go for classical which doesn't appear so I have voted "other" cheers Roy NZ

Sorry about that Roy, i totally forgot the "classical" category!! And i stand corrected Jazzcat on having Jazz and Blues in the same category!! However, on the issue of Country Rock, i think the roots of this all started with Country and Western, Garth Brooks sings Country Rock but classes himself as a Country and Western artiste. So if its good enough for him, its good enough for me!! Gimme a break, im only a novice!!!! ;D ;D ;D

I agree with Jazz Cat - jazz and blues should be two seperate categories. I voted for jazz and blues for similar reasons to her. That said, I feel all of us are influenced to some degree by every genre of music we hear whether we are aware of it or not.

Is there a select all tab?? ;D I have to say Rock music would be my favourite genre, but I am very open minded when it comes to musical taste, I enjoy all types....

I'm like Weego...it's R&B for me mixed with Motown. Artists like Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, The Drifters, The Gap Band, The Commodores...and the list goes on. Funny thing is, as I was growing up listening to this music, I hated it. I wanted to rock, and rock hard....but these days "Mercy Mercy Me" by Marvin Gaye does it for me. So much soul and phrasing like only Marvin could do...now that's music to me. There are, however, many other styles of music I find appealing....rock and roll (still like to blaze on my strat), modern country (Rascal Flats), and jazz (George Benson, Wes Montgomery).

Oldies rock and roll. Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, the list could go on forever.

Hi Everyone on the forum and Happy New Year! I have had many inspirations of music which has inspired me, but I would have to say it would be motown and blues, although I also really like New Age music as well..the music I am requested to play the most when I play out is usually country and blues..the audience also usually like Sinatra alot as well.....Violet Songbird
