The other day I was experimenting with different combinations of sound modules trying to pick out the best sound when I discovered that if I blended a Roland Sound Canvas with a Yamaha QY700, the sound was very distinctive. The Roland is bright and somewhat thin, and the Yamaha is darker and with more punch, especially on the low end. Both sound module mixer channels were set flat. I took the output signal from my laptop and ran it into the Yamaha, and then from the thru port on the Yamaha to the Roland. Now, granted I know there will be some issues such as polyphony and voicings between the two modules. But, it seems to me if all my files are SMF and the modules both play GM files, I shouldn't have a problem. None so far. I also have a Kawai G-Mega GM sound module (great guitar sounds). I was wondering if I could divide up my SMF so that each module will produce the sound it does best. Just a thought....
