If you get yourself a BOSE L1 PA system you can drive almost anything.
I've had a Vauhxhall Calibra for years, which has a nice big rear with the seats down and looks nice too, but now with the Bose I can get all my stuff into my beautiful Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo (Sprint blue - the only colour to have) which looks nice and goes like stink!

Guys I just got meself a Fiat Uno Diesel and my brother fitted a Hand Clutch for me. As you know I'm handicapped with poilo of the left leg and actually all I need is a normal Automatic transmission car. The two autromatic cars I have have given up the ghost and I need to go for a relative's wedding tomorrow so here I am with this lovely reliable car with a Hand Clutch !! Its actuallya Hand brake lever from a SUV, complete with the ratchet etc and its fitted on the steering column and there's a strong rod attached to the clutch pedal. I pull the lever with my right hand and the clutch pedal is depressed. Simple and I've taken it around this chaotic city with no issues.I pull the hand clutch, change my floor gears and release the lever and I'm off. !! The ratchet comes in useful to keep the cluch depressed at the half clutch position. Well, atleast I have a reliable car now till I get my brand new Wagon R - AX (Suzuki).I need to get a lot of paper work done to get my Excise Concessions and Waiver of Ste Road Tax, so that'll take atleast two months. Have any of you made such alterations. I would love to hear from them. I'm off in a few hours, guys, with my wife and my man Friday and I will be driving about 450 kms, and 200 of them will be in the Ghat Section (hilly terrain, elephant country, with hair pin bends and the like. Wish me well, guys. I'll send you all the details when I return on Thursaday.

The only reason it had a heated rear windscreen was to keep your hands warm when pushing it!! ;D

Hi Guys, I know you wont believe this and you'll probably think I'm weaving a story, but cross my heart, its true. We were driving up the "ghat" section through the Bandipur Wild Life Sanctuary when we spotted a medium sized elephant about 30 metres away. It was just about 11 in the morning and my wife thought she'd take a photograph and very foolishy I stopped the car and hardly had she pulled out the camera to click, the darned animal trumpeted and charged at us. My chest felt heavy and I was nearly frozen, but managed to operate my hand clutch and get away and it felt like we took ages to move away. Fortunately, it was just a mock charge and it just backed off. If my wife had clicked it would have made an interesting picture but we were just happy to get away. The Fiat Uno doesnt gather speed on the 1st, 2nd amd 3rd Gears, though it has high torque in those, but it needs the 4th and 5th gears to take off, and this, combined with the fear factor just seemed to freeze us. I will never ever stop that close to an elephant unless I have a Ferari ! The heat was unbearable at the coastal town, and the hunidity was killing, but atleast the car was reliable.

Good Lord! What an amazing thing to happen. I am so glad no-one was hurt, or even the elephant, for that matter. I love elephants almost as much as I do people. Shyam, it's shame your wife didn't get the photo as it would have made a great addition to the "Members Photos" section.

Ah, elephant stories, I've got one too! "Back when I were a lad" I lived in Uganda and in 1962 just before we finally left, we took a trip to a game park on the Uganda / Uranda Urundi (now Burundi) border. We visited the top of the Murchison Falls and as we drove there, in my father's old Austin A90, we noticed some tuskers off to the side of the road. We spent a little time at the falls and then turned round to start the journey on. On rounding the corner there was a small herd spread across the road. "Don't come between a mother and her calf" we'd been told. So we went back to the car park, waited a while and tried again. This time they were closer and so it went on for more than an hour. BTW there's nowhere else to go from the car park but OVER the falls. On the final try there was a gap and my father put his foot down and drove like hell (sound familiar Shyam?). We made it amongst much trumpeting, snorting and head and trunk waving from several females. I've never forgotten it it was so memorable. AND I've got some photos too ... if I can find them. Happy days! JohnG.

JohnG, that must have been scary ! Those creatures can bring the constipation out of a chronic with their trumpets. I really wish wifey had clicked somehow but it really was jittery!

Yea, Shyam scary isn't or wasn't the half of it. The trumpeting rattled the windows. Actually the pictures I got were of the herd were as it was slowly approaching. Couldn't snap whilst were we driving through. Too busy focussing on keeping my trousers clean!!! I can well believe your wife felt the same way. The last thing on your mind is a photo. Reminds me of the joke 'what's the last thing on a fly's mind as he hits your windscreen?' JohnG.
