I wanted an opinion on the Electro Voice SXA 250 15" powered 2 way speaker. I want to use it for sequence playback on stage. It only weighs about 49 pounds too.

I use the SX250 passive speakers and they are perfect for sequence playback, as levi2 says EV is excellent gear, I can't fault it.

Yes, They sound excellent at both low and high volume. One of my regular gigs has a pair of them as foldback/stage monitors and I run the whole mix through them, the sequences sound great and the SX250s certainly pump it out to my satisfaction. They provide as good a sound as the front of house system when set correctly. They're obviously pretty hardy too because they sure get a caning in this club, some of the acts using them are obviously technologically-challenged, anything that's still sounding good after being used by 3 different acts a week for well over 2 years has passed the idiot test! Cheers, Dave.

I use SX200 12" passive with a powered sub also 12" and have never been not loud enough. 37 pounds each is nice also. They are a little thin sounding when outside like at a campgroud where your trying to reach over 100 feet. For those type of conditions 15" is way better.

Er ... maybe this post could be expanded into what people are using besides the SXA 250 powered 15" I've been using two Mackie 450's for a little over 4 years. To my ears they sound great and have really stood the test of time with a 7 piece (3 horns) band in them. But recently (all last summer) I switched to 2 RCF 310a's for doing duo's ect. They are self powered also and sound great in smaller clubs. Only weigh 22 lbs. Plus they have these cool covers that stay on the speaker all the time. You just unzip it from in front of the the speaker grille and fold it over onto a velcro strip. Same for the pole hole and rear connections. And I found out that RCF actually made the speakers for Mackie until there was a falling out. Evidently Mackie was no longer living up to RCF's standards so they quit supplying Mackie. Glad I got the Mackies with the original RCF specs. If I play for a large venue or the 7 piece band I just bring all 4. Har! best, art
