I agree guilty, the Aussies have turned to Shiite rather quickly. Due credit to England for their huge improvement in recent weeks, and their renewed ability to swing the ball. The Aussie batsmen don't have the patience to work hard against good swing bowling, and the finals result proves this again Let's hope that the conditions in the Caribbean wreck the balls quickly, so we don't have to worry about the swinging ball for long. I've some footy news to raise, I'll post this separately. Kind Regards, Big Steve.

The lads done good and well done to them. Who said cricket was boring Hopefully they'll show the same spirit and determination that has seen them through the last couple of weeks. The world cup beckons. And who knows how it will go but I am now more optimistic that England will do the game proud. I am also hoping Ireland will do well in their first ever venture at this level.

G'day all, I've just heard the latest cricket results and now us Aussies can't even beat the Kiwis If our bowling attack can't improve quickly we won't even get to the super 8 stage of the world cup. At least the Aussies are no longer certainties, and this may work in our favour. Talk again soon, Big Steve.

The World Cup has commenced and I'm sure over the next 50 days we'll be hearing from lots of members who's nation is competing in the West Indies. Well maybe we'll just hear from the winning nation at the end of the tournament. Well maybe we won't hear from anyone at all.
I don't like cricket ah......oh no.......I love it ah.......yeah.

G'day all, I reckon that our Irish friends may still be out celebrating St Patricks Day and the great win over Pakistan. It's good to see 3 Aussies helping the Irish cause as part of the Irish team ;D, including the captain. Let's hope that they continue on their merry way Talk soon, Big Steve.

I know cricket isn`t everyone`s idea of fun but the world cup has begun and already there have been a few shocks England have struggled to hold their place with a few ropey matches the Aussie are back in blasting form the poor old Pakistani`s have been bowled out by the undoubted shock team of the series Ireland. For those of us that follow cricket should know Ireland have been trying to gain a place in test cricket but thus far hace been denied by the ICC i wonder how they will be treated now if we are lucky enough to reach the last 8 we will play England and i think the Irish team will relish their chances
On a more sombre note it`s a great shame that 1 of crickets finest and coach of outstanding quality Bob Woolmer has passed away just shortly after his team Pakistan were beaten,he was a coach of great standing in world cricket and could have coached for England,as a player he was a great allrounder having played for England a number of times and scored several centuries at a time when the real fast bowlers such as Lilley and Thompson were at their peak.I heard on local radio just this morning that after Ireland had beaten the Pakistani team he went into the Irish dressing room and shook the hand of every player and wished them the very best for the next round.Truely this was the face of a true sportsman and the world of cricket will surely mourn his passing
May you rest in peace Bob Woolmer and may the sun always be at your back now

lol lol may i point out to all the cricket fans that this isn`t the biggest win my little country has had i remember watching a game in the late sixty`s when a team of world class batsmen and bowlers came over to play Ireland as a warm up game against England and they were hammered naw not even hammered they were slaughtered this team at the time were undoubtly the best in the world forget ur Aussies and your N.Zealand sides this was the West Indies squad which featured the man himself Sir Garfield Sobers and Ireland bowled them all out for less than a 100 that was a great day for the Irish as well.Bring on England (sober of course ) lol lol lol

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear - that was not pretty (England vs. SA).
As I said in a previous post somewhere, even though I've lived in South Africa for 30-odd years, I still support England - as you do (much to the irritation of my colleagues).
Even though I know that England's performance in the 2007 world cup has been less than inspiring, I didn't expect them to roll over to South Africa's dominant performance is SUCH spectacular style.
Horrible...

I watched that match today, a.j. Probably England's worst ever performance I have ever witnessed. It was dismal, to say the least. England, with the exception of Strauss, played like frightened kids. SA were simply too aggressive, too dominant and too good for Fletcher's men.
If SA play to that level against the Aussies in the final, yes, I believe they will meet there, then they will win. Should be a cracker.
Interestingly enough, though I am from Ireland and fully support the Irish I am also an England fan so naturally I was extremely disappointed to see them beaten so decisively.
Great to see Ireland do so well in this tournament. Their wins to date have ensured they now have official One-Day status.

Hi Pat,
Ireland has certainly been the surprise package of the competition. I love it when that happens.
I was on holiday at the coast on St. Pats day, and watched THE game in a local pub (In SA, we just use it as an excuse to drink lots of Guinness and wear those tall black hats with the white bit on the top).
Anyway, I very nearly changed my nationality that day - great match. Not sure how they're going to do against Sri Lanka today though (49/6 after 19.2 overs right now).
Funny game, this.

a.j, they were all out for 77! Not to worry, eh? I'm sure they will have learned from their time in the world cup and (hopefully) go on from here with added incentive to do better in future matches. England will be hoping to apply themselves fully against the West Indies in their last match before facing a hostile reception (and press) when they get back home. Maybe the anticipation of what they'll encounter will inspire them to go all out and perform as we know they can Glad you're enjoying the cricket - and the black stuff!

I am enjoying the cricket, but it does feel as though it's been a long, loooong competition.
Unless something odd happens between the NZ/Aus game, it looks as though it will be an Aussie/SA semi final. The locals here are talking about it rather nervously... You've got to hand it to the Australians, however grudgingly. They're a wonderful side, and they have big match temperament in spades.
As for the black stuff... mmmm... Now, Chinese food and Guinness - that's REAL comfort food. This is not a good thing to be talking about - I'm on a seriously restrictive eating plan that definitely does not include alcohol or noodles. Besides - this is a sports forum. Have to get back to the cricket and my salad...

I see Fletcher will be calling it a day after England's last match, which is against the Windies. I feel for Fletch, but his time has come to an end. The new chap has his work cut out, that's for sure. I only hope whoever it is he makes the changes necessary to revitalise the side.

Well at least Engand managed to salvage something by beating the Windies, but what a nail-biter.
I didn't see the whole match, but at one stage, when I walked past the telly, England had a required rate of over 8 RPO. I managed to catch the last few of overs - looks like it was a good match.
Watching the interviews, it seemed like an emotionally charged match for both sides. Brian Lara was such a classy batsman to watch.
Nixon also did really well - he's great under pressure.

It was a great match, the best, in the view of many, including yours truly, of the series so far. Great entertainment and indeed excitement, too. It was as you rightly mentioned a. j. highly emotional as well. Brian Lara will undoubtedly be missed by any genuine fan of the game. In fact, this year has seen the end to too many legends a particular Shayne Warne comes spinning to mind Sorry, couldn't resist the pun

I think the best to sides have made it through to the final and it seems to be thanks to their bowlers. Tait has been exciting for the Aussie's and to think everyone wrote off Glenn McGrath.
Here's hoping it's a close final.

I agree, best sides got there to the end. Let's hope it won't be an anticlimax. I suppose Australia will win, they seem just so unstoppable at the moment but Sri Lanka are good enough to cause an upset. Looking forward to this and my whole Saturday has been set aside especially, but hopefully it will all be over before I have to go to my gig
