Please Pat, dont be harsh. Some of us display our sentiments more strongly than others, but as long as its not hurtful or offensive, I feel we should close our eyes to some of these irritants. taperboy is a nice guy with good intentions - I'm sure he deserves to stay on. Shyam, I appreciate your desire to come to his assistance but I have said my piece. If he insists on SHOUTING! then he's off. No-one receives special treatment, everyone is equal here and we can't simply allow one member to behave in a way contrary to everyone else.

can someone please tell me what's the big deal about me using caps! i'm i speaking truths so loud that maybe i'm stepping on someone's toes! i thought i was joining in an serious topic, that people really beleived in. if me using caps would make you want to terminate my input, then so be it. i feel if you're not serious about this topic, then you shouldn't have on board. why not talk about what's the best way to make the world worser than it is.
i have a hard time seeing on the screen, that's why i use caps. it's easier on my eyes. if i offended anyone, by speaking on how some people are, i meant to. because i'm tired of the filth in music, on radio, and on tv. and i still say that some people act like they don't like it, but love it. well i hate it. i hate what it's doing to kids, teens, and adults. and if that's something that doesn't make you want to shout, then you ain't for real about it.
so, i'll save you the trouble, and leave on my own. if you can't stand the heat, don't start the fire. i do say i'm sorry for having to use caps, but not for what i was trying to say!!!!
good bye,
taperboy

Hi TaperBoy,
There are some things that are done by reasonable people on the internet. They're called "netiquette". One of those things is not using all capitals because it seems, to us, like you're shouting at us. And when someone shouts then it's the shouting that catches peoples attention not the message you're trying to get over. So people turn away and don't listen.
If you're having trouble reading your screen then you could try increasing the size of the characters on the screen by, at least on my browser, going to the "view" menu at the top of the screen and changing the text size there.
You'll also find that expressing "extreme" views causes people to ignore you. You may not consider them extreme yourself but unless you learn to think about how what you say may be interpreted, so that people maybe don't feel insulted, then you'll end up being ignored.
I personally have no interest in this thread as I know that the intentions of the swearers is to try to get attention and to shock. They're obviously succeeding with some members of this forum. Usually these people (the swearers) when (if) they ever grow up, grow out of the habit anyway. To try to change youth has always been the aim of the older. It's never worked. So I just ignore them hoping they'll go away and hopefully someday become "adults".
Just my twopence worth, you don't have to pay any attention to my views and I won't feel the least bit insulted, because I really don't care that much about it. Let children be children. If we act like adults then we may at least set a better example to them of how to act in a civilized way. It's a tendency amongst many young people to do the exact opposite of what they're asked to do. All part of growing up.
Don't know if this helps you in any way, probably not! JohnG.

Wonderful post John G. and explains things perfectly.
Taperboy, sorry to read you're leaving us.
It's always sad when a member leaves but as you've been struggling to find people here who feel comfortable with your approach to posting maybe it's right you should seek out a place where you'll feel more at home.
I wish you well.

Dear Shyam, From my previous post you see how I feel about this issue. Yes, it's a sad state of affairs when the only thing that sells records, (no, they don't make those anymore) discs or tracks, whatever, is swearing and shouting (some like to pretend that "rap" is an art form) and I personally loathe it all. So I no longer listen or watch certain channels. Will I try to stop it? Nah! It just isn't worth the effort. Styles will change again and it'll go away. Or it won't, and I'll go away. Do you recall how Elvis rotating his hips got the adults worked up in the 50s or the Stones got parents so furious in the 60s? Some records were banned by the BBC and they became million sellers. Do you remember Mary Whitehouse? So will I join a campaign? Not a cat in hell's chance. I've got better things to do and more likely to see some positive outcome. Why not try exposing some of these young 'uns to some more melodious music? Which you already do. That's much more positive and the ones with half a brain will stop listening to the rubbish. My two have. All the best and enjoy your trip down under. I did. Oz is a wonderful place. I have many happy memories of my two trips there. People and places. JohnG.

JohnG, you really have made your point so wonderfully. Though I did feel strongly about the subject I realize that what you are saying makes a lot of sense. The swearers will only gloat in the knowledge that they have been noticed. We should ignore them because that hurts most. Influences with good meaningful melodious music can do the trick and as you rightly said, everyone will grow to be adults. Really well said JohnG. I am very saddened that taperboy has opted to leave our forum and I believe we should urge him to stay. We need to hear all opinions and view points and he is a good man !! I urge him to stay and I hope all of you will too.

Shyam,
You're going to have to work pretty hard if you're going to get rid of me!
Whenever I get steamed up about something (and it happens a lot) I've learnt (and I'm not a quick learner) to sleep on it and then when I've got some perspective to say is that +ve or -ve? If it's -ve can I adopt a +ve point of view that might change things. Just occasionally it works. Not often I admit. But it helps me live a more tranquil life and I'm all for tranquillity.
I reckon if you've made it to your sixties then you probably deserve some of it!
What a load of rubbish I do spout sometimes you pontificating old b*****d! JohnG.

I think John was referring to himself as a "pontificating old b...." Shyam, and his post was just talking about his own feelings not yours. The "steam" wasn't directed at you. I'm all for discussion and debate but some things just go on too long and this is probably one of them. Opinions have been stated clearly for the most part and there's no point in beating it to death. We get it! You should probably look at taperboy's posting history if you want some perspective on his role as a forum member, he's contributed I self introduction, 1 request and a lot of capslock about Filth in Songs. I won't miss him at all. Tranquility to all, Dave.

Hi Shyam
We all enjoy a good discussion thread, and this has certainly proved to be just that, but I think you may be right that it has now been done to death.
Seeing as it was you who started the thread, I will grant your wish and now declare this thread well and truly locked.
Thanks to all who participated.
